JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Four newly appointed Missouri Lottery Commission members say they want to make the agency more efficient so that more of its proceeds can go to education.
The revamped commission met for the first time Friday, a day after Gov. Jay Nixon replaced most of its members and released a report questioning its contracts, prizes and advertising expenses.
The lottery finished the 2014 budget year with record sales but transferred less money to education than the previous year.
Nixon wants a review of lottery policies to increase money for education, a sentiment all four new members say they share.
Members unanimously selected Republican John Twitty of Springfield as chairman. Twitty previously spent almost three decades as a municipal utilities manager.
