Community Café Looks For Board Members

BUTLER, Mo – In an effort to bring free meals to people at the local level, several interested persons gathered February 24 at Immanuel Baptist Church and March 17 at the Community of Christ to discuss the possibility of organizing a soup-kitchen concept for Butler.

The Community Café, the name chosen by the group, will be an endeavor by individuals, groups and churches to provide a free meal each week at a local church for people in the community.

Eileen Parks, described the program in Clinton, and explained the steps needed to get the Café going. Several churches have offered their buildings to host a meal on a rotation basis. Groups will be asked to donate a meal for 75 people, and others will be asked to serve the meal to the guests and clean up. Donations of food and money for meals will also be accepted.

One suggestion was to develop a board of 6-8 people who would meet once a month or quarter to find groups to donate meals, find volunteers to serve, and to coordinate the calendar, as well as discuss any issues that may come up.

Those who would like to serve on the Community Café board need to attend the April 14 meeting at 7 p.m. at the Community of Christ, 409 W. Dakota in Butler.
