CASS COUNTY, Mo – Construction will begin on a new travel center south of Harrisonville. Its expected opening date is set for this fall, and it will bring 85 full-time jobs to the area. The travel center will be located off Interstate 49 at Exit 157. The travel center will be built in the lot adjacent to the fireworks retailer.
The board of zoning adjustment of Cass County approved a special use permit to Sapp Bros. on April 2, the last step the company needed before beginning full construction. The permit is required to sell gasoline on the premises.
Don Quinn, president of Sapp Bros. Travel Centers, Inc., said that employment packages will include health insurance, vacation pay, and profit-sharing and 401(k) plans for employees. He added that no alcohol or pornography will be sold at the center.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will add a left turn lane, increasing capacity of the exit to alleviate the burden of extra traffic in the area that the new travel center will likely cause.
The new Sapp Bros. will include a Dunkin’ Donuts and a company-owned restaurant called Apple Barrel, in addition to the gas pumps and convenience store.
