Butler City County News

BUTLER, Mo – Butler, MO is now a “Purple Heart City.” In a proclamation read at the Butler City Council meeting on September 2nd, Mayor Don Malan read the proclamation that the City of Butler, MO is a Purple Heart City, honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation’s men and women in uniform, wounded or killed by the enemy while serving to protect our freedoms. A plaque was presented to the city to commemorate the occasion.

In other council business City Administrator Larry Tucker told Council the Brush Pile area still remains closed due to prevailing winds from the south that has limited burning and delayed the reopening of the public area. He also told Council federal grants, tax credits and private funds are available for property owners to complete historic preservation projects. For grants to be available Butler would have to become “Certified Local Governments” and establish a local historic commission. Council asked for clarification on the subject and Mr. Tucker will bring back information during a later Council meeting.


Butler Police Chief Randy Beshore presented an Employee Wellness Program Policy he would like to implement within the Butler Police Department. This would be on a voluntary basis but the program would reward participants with incentives such as time off and cash money, depending on the level they finish a one mile run. Council adopted the Policy. He also told Council that one of the new patrol cars has arrived and hopefully will join the fleet by the end of the week.


Public Works Director Trent Diehl presented Change Orders for the recently completed street resurfacing. Council voted to pay the change orders. Diehl also informed Council the project did come in under budget.

Code Enforcement Officer Jim Wheatley updated the Council on the nuisances around town and also three properties have been mowed by contract with Culler Lawn Care and Timeline.


Mayor Don Malan commented it was good to see most of the buildings on the Butler Square are either filled at this time or should be in the near future.
