Motorcycle Pursuit Results in Arrests

BATES COUNTY, MO – On 4/5/15, at approximately 1 am, the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received information that the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was in pursuit of a motorcycle southbound on Interstate 49. Bates County Sheriff’s Deputies entered into the pursuit just north of Adrian. The motorcycle continued to travel south on interstate 49 where additional Bates County Deputies joined into the pursuit.


Approximately 2 miles north of the west 52 highway exit the motorcycle began to smoke, and sparks became visible. A short distance later the bike caught on fire causing the driver to exit at 52 highway exit. As the bike came to the top of the exit ramp a Deputy was able to shove the bike over to end the pursuit. The Butler Fire Department was requested but prior to their arrival the fire was out. The Bates County EMS was requested but the suspects refused any medical treatment.


Deputies attempted to take the driver into custody where he actively resisted and was eventually Tasered. Several small bags of Methamphetamines were located at the end of the pursuit. The suspect and the passenger were taken into custody and transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office. A Deputy received minor injury during the arrest and sought treatment at Bates Count Memorial Hospital.


The driver was identified as 39 year old Wesley A Bass from Kansas City Missouri and was charged with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.

The passenger was identified as 28 year old Sadie A Sims from Independence Missouri and was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the arrest by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Butler Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
